Using both
Starting with POP and widening to MES is common and sensible: once result collection is stable, materials and quality are layered on the same data.
One caution applies. At the POP stage the identification scheme and data structure must be extensible. Designed for results alone, adding lot traceability later means rebuilding from scratch.
